Major Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. He awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again... and again - as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.

Edge of Tomorrow is worth watching because it turns a familiar alien-invasion setup into a tightly structured time-loop action story. Tom Cruise gives Cage a useful arc from reluctant officer to capable fighter, while Emily Blunt makes Rita feel essential rather than incidental. It is a smart, energetic choice for viewers who want science fiction with both a clear concept and satisfying action.
Edge of Tomorrow is Doug Liman's 2014 action and science-fiction film about Major Bill Cage, an officer forced into combat against an alien enemy. After he dies during the battle, Cage wakes up at the start of the same day and must relive the fight repeatedly. Tom Cruise stars as Cage, with Emily Blunt as the formidable soldier Rita Vrataski, as the time loop becomes the only way to learn how to survive and change the outcome.
Watch Edge of Tomorrow if you want a fast, accessible science-fiction action movie with a clever time-loop structure. It is a strong choice for viewers who liked Source Code, Looper or Groundhog Day's repeating-day premise but want more combat and alien-invasion stakes. It is a standalone movie, so there is nothing to watch first, and its 114-minute runtime makes it an easy pick for a focused action night.
For movies like Edge of Tomorrow, try Source Code for another tense time-loop thriller, Looper for science-fiction built around time mechanics, and Groundhog Day for a lighter repeating-day classic. Oblivion is another Tom Cruise science-fiction option, while The Matrix and Interstellar offer larger-scale science-fiction adventures with strong ideas and action.
